Development for existing sites · WordPress + WooCommerce

Custom functionality for WordPress and WooCommerce.

When the site needs a business rule, administrative tool, or system connection its current setup cannot provide, I can build the missing functionality around the way the business works.

When a site needs more

The website works. One important part still needs building.

01

A form stops at an email

Staff must enter the information into another system before the next step can happen.

02

The storefront serves different countries

Product availability, checkout, or delivery options need to follow rules for the customer’s location.

03

Accounts need a different sign-in flow

Customers or staff need account access that the existing setup cannot support.

04

Staff need a better control

A recurring task needs a clear administrative interface or an automation that carries the work forward.

Describe the rule and where it belongs. We start by understanding what the existing site already handles and what needs custom development.

What I can build

Focused additions to the site you already have.

01

Custom plugins and administrative tools

Add business-specific features, settings, and staff interfaces so the site's behaviour can be managed deliberately.

02

Custom authentication systems

Build the account, sign-in, and access flows the site needs, including connections to an existing identity system where appropriate.

03

Automations and API connections

Connect site submissions, customer information, or order events to the next step, with a defined way to handle failed or duplicate requests.

04

WooCommerce checkout and pricing

Implement the conditions that determine what a customer can order, how the price is calculated, and what information checkout must collect.

05

Location-aware storefront logic

Build country and region rules for multinational storefronts, so product availability, delivery options, and checkout behaviour fit the markets the business serves. Give staff the controls to maintain those rules.

For agencies

Help with a specific task for your agency.

Small development assignments can be subcontracted under your agency’s name. For small agency assignments, we can agree on an hourly cap or a fixed price before work starts. Larger software projects are scoped and priced in phases.

Larger custom-software projects are contracted directly through Featherply, with a referral arrangement available.

Working with agencies · Larger business applications

Make the storefront fit the customer’s location.

A multinational storefront can share one underlying system while applying the product and checkout rules each market needs.

Illustrative storefront logic

  1. 01 / Customer location

    Delivery country: Canada

A customer views a sample item for delivery to their selected country.

  2. 02 / Storefront rules

    Apply the country’s rules

Check which products can be offered and which delivery options apply.

  3. 03 / Relevant checkout

    Show the available options

The customer sees eligible products and delivery choices for that location.

A different country can have different rules.

Illustrative multinational storefront using fictional information. The rules would be defined for your business.

How projects start

Agree on the change, then build it.

Start with a free fit review. If the requirements are clear enough, I provide a fixed quote directly. If important questions need investigation first, I’ll propose a small planning phase with an agreed scope and price of no more than $500 USD.

  1. Understand the existing site

Look at the current functionality, relevant plugins, and where the new behaviour belongs.

  2. Agree on the change

Define what it needs to do. Small agency tasks can use the hourly-cap or fixed-price arrangement described above.

  3. Build and check it

Check the new feature alongside the relevant existing functionality and failure cases.

  4. Hand it over

Explain what changed, how to use it, and the agreed release responsibilities.

You keep the documented requirements, findings, recommended approach, scope boundaries, and acceptance criteria. When the build is viable and sufficiently defined, the handoff includes a fixed proposal for the first implementation, with timing and operating responsibilities. If the right answer is not to proceed, you receive the reasons and alternatives instead. You can use the handoff with Featherply, another developer, or nobody.

Working arrangements and fractional engineering

Check that the feature works with the site.

I check the feature alongside the relevant parts of the existing site, including what happens when a request cannot be completed. You receive an explanation of what changed and how to use it.

What does the site need to do?

I’ll review your message and reply within two business days with any initial questions and a suggested next step. This initial fit review is free.

No paid work starts until its scope and price are agreed and you explicitly approve it.

Privacy and your enquiry

I treat what you share as private and use it only to review your enquiry unless we agree to use it for a project. Share only what you are comfortable sending; a short description or anonymized example is enough to start.

This page may use MaxMind to estimate your country or province from your IP address and adjust its wording. We don’t request precise device location or attach the inferred location to your enquiry. Campaign links can select regional wording independently of your location.

Include the site address and relevant plugins or systems if known. Agencies can mention their role and preferred arrangement.

No payment or commitment. This sends an enquiry only. No paid work starts until its scope and price are agreed and you explicitly approve it.
